March 2010
Share an act of kindness on the 5th of April; let’s see how many people we can get signed up to do some random kinds of kindness.
Lots of organisations and some countries are marking the 5th of April as a day to treat others in the way you would want to be treated.
Cultures, philosophies and religions all over the world share this ideal which has become as known as the “Golden Rule”.
Some suggestions for acts of kindness:
1. Smile at someone; it may just make their day.
2. Take a minute or two out to help someone; for example that little old lady who can’t reach the top shelf in the shop.
3. Send someone a hand written note of thanks.
4. Hold the train door open for someone rushing to get in.
5. Give up your seat for someone, not just an elderly person.
6. Pick up some rubbish in the road that would otherwise be lying around.
7. Give another driver your parking spot.
8. Say, “Please” and “Thank you” and “I Love You” sincerely.
Or come up with something of your own. :)
We invite you to share what you plan to do or have done with others by posting to this event’s wall.
Also, do invite ALL your friends to make this event BIGGER!

The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.
“There are 5 things you need to know,” he told the pencil, “Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be.”
“One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone’s hand.”
“Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you’ll need it to become a better pencil.”
“Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.”
“Four: The most important part of you will always be what’s inside.”
“And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.”
The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.
Now replacing the place of the pencil with you. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.
One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God’s hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.
Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems in life, but you’ll need it to become a stronger person.
Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.
Four: The most important part of you will always be what’s on the inside.
And Five: On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to do your duties.
Girls are taught a lot of stuff growing up. If a guy punches you, he likes you, never try to trim your own bangs, and someday you will meet a wonderful guy and get your very own happy ending. Every movie we see, every story we’re told, implores us to wait for it, the third act twist, the unexpected declaration of love, the exception to the rule.
But sometimes we’re so focused on finding our happy ending, we don’t learn how to read the signs: how to tell the ones who want us from the ones who don’t, the ones who will stay and ones who will leave. And maybe a happy ending doesn’t include a guy, maybe… it’s you, on your own, picking up the pieces and starting over, freeing yourself up for something better in the future. Maybe the happy ending is… just… moving on.
Or maybe the happy ending is this… knowing after all the unreturned phone calls, broken hearts, through the blunders and misread signals, through all the pain and embarrassment, you never gave up hope.
